About 'Great Moments'
This collection contains over 190 recordings of historically and socially significant events, including notable inventions and scientific advances, tragedies and achievements, times of war, achievements in sport, aviation and space exploration, and many, many more.
Click here to view the full list.
Volume 1 covers 1901 to 1953 and includes The New Century, the two World Wars and the Fragile Peace.
Volume 2 covers 1953 to 1969, including The Atomic Era, The Cold War and the social changes of the 60s.
Volume 3 covers 1970 to 1999 and includes the Equal Rights movement, Watergate, and ‘Glasnost’ and the New World Order.
Anyone over 80 will tell you exactly where they were when they heard of the King’s Abdication in 1936, the declaration of war in 1939, the Pearl Harbor assault in 1941. They may well recall the coming to prominence of Ghandi in India, the Hindenburg airship disaster, or George Bernard Shaw and the Pacifist movement.
Anyone over 50 will recall John F Kennedy’s speech at the Berlin Wall, and will tell you exactly where they were just a short time later when they heard he had been shot. Probably, they will also have memories of ‘Sputnik’, living through the ‘atomic age’, the first heart transplant, the Israeli-Arab ‘six-day war’, the early American space program and the moon landings.
Younger people will have similar recollections of events such as the Nixon resignation, the Clinton denial, the onset of Desert Storm, the death of Diana, the Falklands War, Nelson Mandela walking free, the ‘Challenger’ space shuttle disaster, the end of the Cold War and of the Soviet Union, and more.
All of these, and dozens of other historic events, are accessible to you and those you teach, through this amazing collection. We also recommend that you check through the
‘Great Speeches’ collection, listed separately, for relevant complementary material on your chosen topic.
